February is Heart Health Month. In honor of the body’s most celebrated organ, we’ve got some helpful tips for a happy, healthy heart.
1. The perfect couple
We want to introduce you to the perfect couple (no, not your favorite celebrity duo). We’re talking about omega 3 and omega 6. You need these essential fatty acids, but there’s one problem: your body doesn’t naturally produce them. These nutrients can be found in foods like fish or dietary supplements. Essential fatty acids are important for a healthy heart and healthy cell membranes.
Have you tried 4Life’s BioEFA with CLA supplement? It contains omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids to support multiple body systems.*
2. Weigh for it . . .
When you maintain a healthy weight, you reduce the workload on your heart and circulatory system to keep your body running. Keeping your weight under control can also reduce the risk of heart disease. In general, try to maintain a body mass index (BMI) between 18.5 and 24.9.
Exercise is a great way to watch your weight. Your heart is muscle, and when you exercise, your heart pumps faster and gets stronger!
3. You are what you eat
The better the foods you put in your body, the better your heart will feel. As you plan out your meals, include fruits, veggies, low-fat dairy, and less saturated and total fat. Reach for a carrot stick or an apple instead of a candy bar. Try to keep your sodium under 1,500 mg a day and limit your alcohol intake. Your heart will thank you!
4. Sit back and relax
Getting overly worried or stressed can negatively affect your blood pressure and heart. Here are a few ideas for managing stress:
- If something is causing you stress, consider what you can do to change it or how you can respond differently.
- Take a few minutes out of your day to meditate or deep breath
- Write a list of things you can be grateful for
- Find reasons to smile and laugh throughout the day
